HPEX is an acronym for Health Professions Exploring. It is a special designation for undeclared students who are pursuing any of the various pre-health tracks (pre- medicine, dental, physical therapy, physician assistant, optometry, pharmacy, vet, occupational therapy, etc.)
These graduate programs do not have a preference for which undergraduate major the student has completed. Therefore, students pursuing these pre-health tracks may choose to major in any subject on campus while also taking the necessary pre-requisites for their pre-health track.
As an HPEX student, you’ll work with an advisor in the University Advising Center who will advise you on where to begin with the proper courses for your intended pre-health track and help guide you on choosing the best major for your individual goals. As you make progress with your pre-health track, you’ll also be encouraged to meet with advisors in the Pre-Health Professions Advising office on campus. Their primary purpose is to guide students on meeting pre-requisites for the various pre-health tracks and offer advice related to other requirements necessary to become a competitive applicant (i.e. shadowing hours, leadership, volunteer hours, standardized tests, etc.).
